Changes in fashion over a period of time are shown below through the series of a timeline event.
1960-During this year, women began wearing a dress known as the "bouffant" look. This dress was where the top part was tight, and the skirt of the dress puffs out.
1961- The popular hairstyle became known as: the beehive. Where people teased their hair and piled it onto their head. This was a big hit. Women also began wearing pants at around this time.
1962-Also known as the beat look, this was a time of black everything. This look included black berets, black slacks that were tight on women and dark glasses. Women also wore dark eye makeup. Men wore sandals.
1963-Cardin designed the Beatles suits which became popular for men. The suit had a single breasted collarless jacket and slim pants.
1964-Space age clothing starts to become popular. Different materials were used such as discs of metal or plastic linked together with wire. Leather is also used. Metallic or neon colors were used as the main colours on the clothing.
1965-Men began wearing haircuts like: the pompadour and flattop. Then later in the year men began wearing sideburns.
1966-Bright clothing is now a hit. Colors (acid colors) are brighter and bolder. Men begin to dress "fancy".
1967-Ethnic fashions begins to spread. The ethnic look is clothing picked up from other cultures.
1968-Skirts begin to lengthen out, along with hair. The "Hippie look" is now popular. The women wore long floor length dresses and skirts called maxies. Men continued to grow their hair longer. Hippies decorated everything, including painting their bodies.
1969-African-American hairstyles for men and women including the afro were introduced at this time.
1970-In addition to the mini skirt, mid-calf-length dresses called "midis" and ankle-length dresses called "maxis" were also worn in 70s and 1971, offering women three different skirt lengths.
1971-For a very brief period of time in ’71, hot pants became very popular for females.
1972-First designed by Diane Von Furstenberg, the jersey wrap dress became a popular style for women all over the world as it could be worn to work or out to a night on the town. It flattered most body types and sizes which was also an upside.
1973- Fashion was still the same as 1972.
1974-After two years of being the style to wear, glam rock began to fade out of style and started to fade slowly into punk fashion.
1975-Punk movement in the United Kingdom and creating the first generation gap within rock and roll and punk fashion.
1976-One-piece swimsuit that launched the trend. They were to be sexy, tight swimsuit, with deep neckline and high-cut legs, worn by young women and girls in lieu of the bikini but it didn't replace the bikini completely.
1977- the style that was seen through out most of the decade; wide-legged, flared jeans and trousers which were another fashion trend for both sexes.
1978-Polyester, double knitting, skin-tight Spandex trousers, tube tops, and slit skirts were popular for a while when the 70's were drawing to a close.
1979-As the decade was coming to a close, jeans had moved from being flared to being skinny legged. Most people would also wear their jeans cuffed.
1980-Rubber bracelets, lace gloves, headbands, and big hair became popular. But some people wanted to return back to when women dressed proper, so many people would still wear dresses instead of jeans, and high heels instead of shoes. People also started wearing religious jewelry like movie stars and teens.
1981-The Yuppie look became very popular in for men and woman in their 20's and 30's. They dressed very nicely, and were into designer fashions, such as Calvin Klein, Girgio Armani, and Ralph Lauren.
1982-metallic looking dresses and pants, tight figure hugging dresses were popular.
1983-muscle shirts with tooling around was a hit fashion trend for the males and cowboy boots were popular for the girls.
1984-Madonna had a great influence on fashion in late 1984. She made wearing skirts over leggings, lace gloves, and messy hair very stylish for young woman.
1985- tartan was a major outrage in fashion in 1985.
1986- earrings became a mainstream style for young males, leather jackets popularized by Micheal Jackson were also in fashion.
1987-In the 1980's there were 7 significant hair styles. These included the perm, mullet, jheri curl, flat top, hi-top, fade, and "big hair"
1988- acid washed jeans and denim jackets became popular with both men and women.
1989-top hats, new nylon caps and flip over hems. Lees and drop waist mini puffy skirts were in.
1990-Baby-doll dresses became popular along with wearing boots and high heels with them. Most people started wearing them because of popular famous people like Emma Bunton and the band The Spice Girls.

1960s: The fashion in the 1960s was very diverse. Certain clothes at that time that was considered inappropriate, later became allowed. Many started there own fashion trends. People that rode motorcycles had there own style of clothes and they were referred to as the mods or greasers. Some types of clothes that people wore were things like blue jeans with wide bottoms, long skirts, loose shirts, velvet pants and tie-dye colored clothing. Flower power prints and peace signs were very popular at the time. Accessories like beads around your neck were also pretty popular at the time. Some fashion influences for people in the 60's were people like the Beetles along with any British style was popular. They like the clothes stlye that came from Britian. Even though the fashion in the 60's wasn't much different than now i am sure there also some similarities in our style of clothes now a days.
1970s: Angel Flight Suits Coordinated disco suit with jacket, vest, and flared pants were the most common fashion items in the 70s. Your shirt had to be a shiny satin with the large collar. Angel Sleaved Blouses Loose cut, over sized blouses with "bell bottom" sleeves. All Cotton. Army Jackets Actual olive-drab army jackets which could be purchased at an Army/Navy store were very big at high school, especially amongst the stoner males. They were frequently worn with ripped jeans or jeans that dragged on the ground.

long scarves, jelly shoes/sandals ,sling back usually by spirit,Esprit laundry bags, guess or jean jacket (usually in light pink or blue jean and or white),door knocker earrings gold bamboo, ripped jeans, pink lip stick, blue eyeliner and heavy eyebrows.
1990s: In 1990 people wore silver to represent the new millennium.Mary Quant invented the mini skirt.
